"The Largest Wave in the World"
story by Spencer Holst read by the author

Here is Part II of "There are Different Kinds of Writing," the collaboration between Holst and Tucker, the writer/storyteller and the composer. (For Part I and Part II the text, read by the author, is a series of short prose pieces, brief beginnings of many unfinished stories. In Part I the beginnings alternate with short microtonal bass recorder solos played by the composer. In Part II the alternating microtonal music of Tucker consists of recorder duos performed by Pete Rose and David Carp. Rose and Carp use all of the recorders; sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Holst and Tucker first performed Part I over radio station WBAI-FM New York City in the late 1960s; Holst, Rose, and Carp gave the premier performances of Part II in the Pleides Gallery, New York City, in 1980. "There are Different Kinds of Writing is a version of Pleasures of the Imagination, included in Spencer Holst Stories, published by Horizon Press.

The Largest Wave in the World is an apocalyptic tale of a hurricane transforming a suspension bridge into a gargantuan musical instrument emitting a deep, musical tone.
