about

A multi-track recording of Jerome Rothenberg singing his “total translation” of the 12th of the 17 “Horse Sings” in the blessingway of Frank Mitchell, a Navajo from Chinle, Arizona.

An excerpt from “March 1974” of “Hannah Weiner’s Clairvoyant Journal,” read by Hannah Weiner, Sharon Mattlin, and Margaret De Coursey.

The conclusion of Armand Schwerner’s translation of Sophocles’ “Philoctetes.” Schwerner reads Philoctetes; Sam Gray, Heracles, a sailor, and the chorus; George Economou, Odysseus; and Ed Gero, Neoptolemus.

Spencer Holst reads his short story “The Frog” from “Spencer Holst Stories” (Horizon Press, NYC, 1976).

Philip Corner collaborates with William Fontana in “Metal Meditations with Fontana.” The tape is excerpted from a recording of a live performance given in December 1974 at Elaine Summer’s Experimental Intermedia Foundation in New York. “Metal Meditations” uses Fontana’s “listening centers.” In these, microphones are placed in resonant acoustical environments—jars, metal pipes, phone booths—so that the container acts like a sound collector. In this performance, Corner struck the containers, and Fontana moved the mic.
